The spiritual life isn’t marked by constant comfort but by a variety of challenges and trials. Whenever you face challenges, see them as opportunities for absolute joy. This mindset is crucial because testing your faith—the ultimate gauge of your trust in God—is the divine way to build perseverance. This quality, often called steadfastness or endurance, is more than just dealing with difficulty; it’s an active, hopeful choice to keep moving forward.
Let this perseverance run its full course and complete its work in you. The outcome of this process is spiritual maturity—becoming complete, whole, and fully developed, lacking nothing in Christ-like character traits. During difficult times, a key need is wisdom—the practical, spiritual insight needed to handle complex situations. When you recognize this need, bring your request straight to God. He is incredibly generous, offering freely and abundantly to everyone who asks, without criticizing or fault-finding. The sure promise is that you will receive this wisdom.
However, the way you ask is significant. Your request to God must be firmly grounded in belief, free of any doubt. The person who allows doubt to cloud their petition is unstable, like a restless wave of the sea, entirely at the mercy of the winds and continually tossed about. Such a person cannot keep a focused mind on God and is, therefore, spiritually unstable. That individual should not expect to receive anything significant from the Lord, for they are double-minded—torn between faith and unbelief—making them unreliable and unstable in all areas of their life and actions.
